London Overground train arriving at the new station

A new Overground station will be built at New Bermondsey, between Surrey Quays and Queens Road Peckham. Planning permission has been granted and 1/3 of the enabling works have been completed.

The new station is part of a wider programme of transport improvement which will open up this area of London. 40,000 people live within a 15 minute walk of the New Bermondsey site but currently transport connections in the area are poor.

After considerable work with local, regional and national government over a number of years the scheme will strengthen these links by delivering:

  • A new Overground station between Surrey Quays and Queens Road Peckham
  • Two new bus routes, one serving central London and one linking the site to Lewisham
  • New cycling and pedestrian routes as part of the Mayor’s Quietways proposals linking into the wider Sustrans network
  • A direct route through the scheme linking South Bermondsey rail station and New Bermondsey Overground station
  • Lighting and improvements to 14 surrounding underpasses and railway arches
