Engineers working on the Bermondsey Dive Under project, immediately north of the New Bermondsey site, have discovered the remains of a railway station thought
to be over 100 years old.
The long lost ‘ghost station’ at Southwark Park was originally opened in 1902 but closed in 1915 after competition from buses and trams in the local area. Network Rail said that the arch that used to house the old booking hall will remain, as this discovery serves up another reminder of the rich history that exists below the capital’s streets.
